What is histamine intolerance?
Put simply this is an imbalance of histamine and the enzyme DAO, Diamine Oxydase in the body. For someone with histamine Intolerance, this deficiency means that they are unable to break down ingested histamine quickly enough.

The consequence
Ingested histamine is broken down significantly slower and accumulates within the body. The body then reacts to the accumulated histamine with similar symptoms as for allergies, for example, with rashes, itching, headaches, diarrhoea and vomiting or abdominal pain. It is important to know however that this does not point to an allergy, but to intolerance.

What foods contain histamine?
Foods that ripen or are stored for longer periods of time show high levels of histamine. In addition, a range of foods act as so-called histamine liberators, as they also release histamine inside the intestines. Some examples of these are:

Alcohol, particularly red & sparkling wine
Cheese, fondues
Seafood, fish & fish sauces
Raw sausage (e.g. salami and smoked ham)

Various types of vegetables (e.g. tomatoes, spinach & aubergines)
Various types of fruit (e.g. strawberries, pineapples & bananas)

What is Daosin?
