Living with Intolerance

The thought of having to cut some of the major food groups out of your diet can be extremely daunting for most people.  Often the very foods that you need to avoid are the ones that you eat most frequently and can even be your favourites.

Once you have had your intolerance confirmed and are cutting foods out of your diet you must try and replace those foods with substitutes.  One of the best ways to cope when dealing with food intolerance is to cook meals from scratch rather than relying on convenience food.  When you have made a meal yourself you can be sure of all the ingredients in it.  There are now many recipe books on the market that can give you ideas on how to adapt your diet and to replace old favourites with meals that would be safe for you to eat.  (Details can be found in our useful books section).

However it isn’t always easy or convenient to cook from scratch, most supermarkets now stock ‘Free From’ ranges so you can find replacement bread, biscuits, sauces and cereals to help make your diet more interesting.

On the following pages we give you ideas on how to cope with your food intolerance and keep your diet both interesting and nutritionally sound.
