We hope that the services that FIA provide will make a huge difference to the quality of life of people with food intolerance, because of the growing demand for our information, advice and support services we desperately need your help.
If you would like to help us you can do so in a number of ways:
We have a nationwide network of support contacts that are happy to offer advice and support to fellow sufferers. Our support contacts are a dedicated group of people who are themselves people with food intolerance. They are not medically qualified but give up their free time to help and advise others in coming to terms with the everyday problems they face.
Often because of the lack of understanding of food intolerance there is a great deal of frustation, so it is extremely helpful to have somebody who has been in the same situation and is able to talk to you in every day language to guide you in the right direction and to provide the help and support you need.
Often it is just nice to know that similar things have happened to others and they have been able to get through that difficult time. The contacts themselves will not give medical advice, indeed this could be extremely dangerous, but they are a listening ear at the end of the phone able to offer sympathetic and practical help and support.
You can help raise awareness about food intolerance in your area by becoming a speaker for local groups, by holding fundraising events such as sponsored fun runs etc. It doesn’t matter how small the event you can help raise funds for FIA helping us to make difference to the lives of food intolerance sufferers.
We are always looking for people that are willing to talk to the media about how their lives are affected by food intolerance. If you would be happy to speak to the press or appear on television or radio please let us know.
It’s always encouraging to know that you are not suffering on your own, we would love to hear your stories and include them on The FIA website, how you discovered your food intolerance, how you are coping and what other people think about the way you have to eat.
As we know Food Intolerance is still not taken seriously. If we wish to see services improved we will need to create awareness of the problems particularly with decision makers. People who have, or are, suffering with the problem make the best advocates. You could work with us on parliamentary and media campaigns to highlight the difficulties.
FIA is a division of Allergy UK and is dedicated in providing support and awareness for food intolerance sufferers and their families. We want food intolerance and its associated debilitating conditions to be taken seriously by the health profession, but to do this we need your help.
